People on the Move: Jeff Gerstmann leaves GiantBomb, Dan Ryckert triumphantly returns from WWE
The GiantBomb community was deeply dismayed earlier this week when longtime show co-host Jeff Gerstmann announced that he was leaving to do his own thing. Fans were excited and relieved to learn on Tuesday that “his own thing” would be a Patreon-backed podcast tentatively titled “The Jeff Gerstmann Show.”
But the big question for fans of GiantBomb was what would the publication do to fill the void created by Gerstmann’s exit? Bring back a familiar face: One of the founding members of GiantBomb, Dan Ryckert, announced that he had left WWE to rejoin the site and the show–Rykert was working closely to create game and podcast content with Up Up Down Down host and WWE superstar Xavier Woods– but after two and a half years of that, he decided that he would rejoin GiantBomb as creative director.
In addition to the return of Ryckert, long-time GamesBeat writer and editor Jeff Grubb announced that he was exiting the publication to join the GiantBomb crew as a video content producer.
All in all it was a rollercoaster ride for GiantBomb fans this week, but all’s well that ends well; GiantBomb gets two very talented content creators and Jeff Gerstmann gets to make a huge solo play with the support of his massive fanbase. Everybody wins, it seems.
Now on to this week’s news - James Fudge.
