Roblox Beats Revenue Expectations as Daily Users Surge
Roblox Corp. reported stronger-than-expected first quarter results, with revenue jumping 29.2% to $1.04 billion, exceeding Wall Street forecasts of $1 billion. The gaming metaverse operator posted adjusted earnings of $0.21 per share, significantly outperforming analysts' expectations of a $0.39 loss.
Daily active users climbed to 97.8 million, representing a year-over-year increase of 20.1 million, driven by strong growth in Asia-Pacific markets and among users over 13 years old. The company's adjusted EBITDA reached $205.1 million, nearly 30% above analyst estimates.
Operating margin improved significantly to -24.6%, up from -37.7% in the same quarter last year, while free cash flow margin surged to 41.2%.
The company raised its full-year revenue guidance slightly to $4.33 billion but projected second-quarter revenue of $1.03 billion, falling short of analyst estimates. Its full-year EBITDA guidance of $235 million remains substantially below the $1.08 billion analysts had forecast.
"Our platform improvements and genre diversification are driving broader engagement," said CEO David Baszucki, highlighting advancements in AI-driven moderation and new monetization avenues including advertising partnerships with Google, Chipotle, and NASCAR.
CFO Mike Guthrie cautioned that while margin improvement has been substantial, the pace is expected to moderate in coming quarters.
Cricket Players Strike Mobile Gaming Deal in Push for Off-Field Revenue
Winners Alliance, the commercial arm of the World Cricketers' Association, has inked a licensing agreement with Nextwave Multimedia that marks cricket's expanding footprint in the digital entertainment sector.
The deal grants Nextwave, a subsidiary of publicly-traded Nazara Technologies, rights to integrate more than 500 professional cricketers into its World Cricket Championship franchise, which boasts hundreds of millions of downloads.
Industry analysts view the partnership as cricket's belated entry into the lucrative group licensing market that has long benefited athletes in other major sports. The arrangement creates a new revenue stream for cricketers while enhancing the game's authenticity.
For Nazara, which acquired Nextwave in 2024, the deal strengthens its position in the competitive mobile gaming landscape as it prepares to launch WCC4 later this year.
